Before the pandemic hit and the world turned upside down, the plan had been to hold the Atlantic Writing Awards gala (at which the four Dartmouth Book Awards are given) on May 14, 2020. The organizing committee for the gala has decided to cancel the fall awards gala. Instead, the awards will be announced online and through the media and the award winners will be celebrated in person at the 2021 Atlantic Writing Awards at a date/location to be announced.
The shortlist of the Dartmouth Book Awards finalists along with the other awards finalists were just announced and are posted at http://atlanticbookawards.ca/. There are some excellent works nominated. For those of you who are CBC Radio listeners, Louise Renault of Halifax’s Information Morning is announcing the shortlisted authors over the course of several days.
Each of the shortlisted authors will record readings of their work and those will be posted on Facebook and at http://atlanticbookawards.ca/.
Finally, the winners will be announced at the end of June online and through local media, including CBC.
Since there are no in person awards this year, and with the restrictions around gatherings due to Covid19, the Dartmouth Book Awards committee has decided to forego our sponsor appreciation night, originally planned to be held at New Scotland Brewery. We look forward to hosting an event in the future!
